Thank you for your interest in our classes. Classes at BCK directly support local, working artists. After regular studio hours, artists rent the studio to teach curriculum they create, creating more variety and opportunities for you to learn the art of ceramics. Read on to find the adult or youth class that speaks to you.
Adult Classes
Start Here- Beginner Classes
Hand Building (Off the wheel)
With:
- Class: Various days 5:30pm-8:30pm or 6:30-9:30
- Optional Open Studio Time
- 6 Week Session
- Accessible + welcoming — perfect for beginners or anyone who wants to slow down and make with intention
- Wheel-free creativity — learn slab, coil, pinch, and sculptural techniques that give you total freedom in your designs.
- Build what inspires you — mugs, planters, dishes, sculptures… if you can dream it, we can help you make it.
- Hands-on guidance — small classes mean plenty of instructor support as you explore your personal style.
- For ages 18 and up (Or 14+ with an accompanying guardian also taking the class)
- A calm space to unwind — enjoy the therapeutic, meditative rhythm of working with clay.
- Includes optional open studio time outside of class.
- Clay, glazing, firing, and basic tools are included
Wheel Throwing- 1
With:
- Optional Open Studio Time
- 6 week session
- Beginner friendly wheel throwing class
- For ages 18 and up (Or 15+ with an accompanying guardian also taking the class)
- Class is 3 hours, meeting weekly for 6 weeks
- Students will develop wedging, centering, wheel wedging, and various throwing knowledge and techniques
- Includes optional open studio time outside of class for more time to practice!
- Higher skill levels are welcome and will be guided in advancing their ceramic skill set
- Clay, glazing, firing, and basic tools are included
Casual Adult Pass
With:
- Prepaid Package of Casual Appointments With An Instructor
- Bookings based on instructor availability
- Pottery is a multi-step process and usually cannot be completed in one visit
- Clay must dry and be kiln fired between stages
- Most wheel projects require 3 sessions: throwing, trimming, and glazing
- Most handbuilding projects require 2–3 sessions plus glazing
- Sessions are typically spaced days or weeks apart due to drying and firing schedules
- Finished pottery is usually ready 2–4 weeks after your final appointment
- Our Casual Pass is a prepaid package of 3 one-on-one lessons to create your own ceramics outside of group classes

- For ages 15+
- Use for yourself OR a guest to accomplish a project of your own design.
- Want to bring a friend? Book a session for two (you'll use up two sessions at one time).
- Studio hours expire after 2 months.
- Clay, glazes, firings, and community shelf space included.
- Appointment times are based on instructor availability and are not limmited to when our gallery is open (view current availability by clicking on the box labled STEP 2 below)
Casual Adult Pass Appointments
With:
- 1-2 hour sessions
- Bookings based on instructor availability
- Casual Pass purchase required before booking appointments
- Use the emailed pass code from your purchase to schedule appointments
- Browse availability before purchasing if desired
- Choose Wheel Throwing or Handbuilding/Sculpture
- Pick a day and time that works for you
- Sessions may include up to two students
- Pottery requires multiple visits over several weeks due to drying and kiln firing times
Slip Casting
With:
- Optional Open studio time
- 6 week sessions
- Learn the fundamentals of slip casting from model to finished glazed work
- Begin with one-part mold making to understand plaster behavior and basic mold design
- Learn how to evaluate forms and determine when a two-part mold is required
- Create a two-part plaster mold with clean part lines and registration keys
- Practice proper plaster mixing, pouring, curing, and safe separation
- Cast multiple ceramic pieces from your mold
- Gain confidence in the complete slip-casting workflow, from mold planning to finished ceramics
- Great for beginners and advanced students ages 16+
- A required mold-making supply package must be purchased prior to the first class
- Students must bring a corded or cordless drill, sketchbook or notebook, and pencil
Keep Learning- Intermediate Classes
Wheel Throwing-2 Classes
With:
- Additional Open Studio Time
- 6 week sessions
- Wheel Throwing-2 Classes
- Required prerequisite, Wheel-1 or by instructor consent
- If you can center up to two pounds and pull a rough cylinder, this is your next step!
- Includes optional open studio time outside of class for more time to practice!
- Clay, glazing, firing, and basic tools are included
- Classes meet weekly for 3 hours and are 6 weeks in length
- Morning Wheel-2 classes are Hybrid classes with instructional demos to view outside of class
Free Form - Guided Open Studio Class
With:
- Class: Tuesday 5:30pm-8:30pm
- Optional additional Open Studio Time
- 4 week session
- Meets on the same night of the week for 4 weeks
- Practice skills you already have from other classes you have taken
- Self directed projects
- Instructor is available to help overcome hurdles
- Additional unguided open studio time available till week 3
- Hand building or Wheel classes
Youth Classes
Bozeman Clay Kids Creative
With:
- Fridays
- 4pm - 6pm
- 7-week session
- Creativity boosting, project based, group kids classes
- For ages 10+ Parents are welcome (not required) to take class along side their kids
- Students will meet weekly for seven weeks
- Tools, clay, glazes and firing is included
